Report by Carolin Dittrich

Carolin Dittrich from Germany wrote a report on her work with “Mission Gorkha”  and on the importance of this work. Thank you, Carolin!

Now I am already one week in Germany and it feels, as usual, still a little weird. To travel between two worlds which are so different is always a big challenge for me. This year in Nepal was the most emotional one what I had up to now. The strongest earthquake after 80 years hit Nepal on the 25th of April. A natural disaster with awful results, more than 8,000 people died and more than 16,000 were injured. For many people it means also a psychic trauma which they must work on. The survivors especially in the small villages stand before nothing, everything is buried under the rubble. The situation is especially difficult in the rural areas. The destructions are massive there and the people are difficult to reach. The magnitude of the disaster is immense, particularly after the heavy postquake from the 12th of May many survivors are more afraid or lost even more than already before. The earthquake disaster hit a country which counts anyway already to one of the poorest in the world. Nepal is the second-poorest country of South Asia. The annual pro-head income lay in 2013 with about 730 US dollars – this are less than two dollars on the day. One quarter of the population lives below the national poverty border. Also the many years’ civil war which ended only just ten years ago has weakened the country with lasting effect. Besides, the oncoming monsoon time threatens to aggravate the need of the earthquake victims drastically. The starting rainfall can lead to other landslides and breaking off of illnesses. The auxiliary readiness after the earthquake came was very big. Also the donation readiness for our Nepal Earthquake Volunteer – mission Gorkha was incredibly great and many people from different countries made a donation. Sali the project manager works with his volunteers every day at full speed to be able to help furthermore so many people as possible. Of course this is only a small part of those the help need, but it is a beginning and means for the people so much. Without your donations all that would not be possible at all. No matter whether 5 euros, dollars, … or more, every euro, dollar. . . are so important for the people in Nepal who are so charming. Even if I am not any more in Nepal, I will further support the project, collect still donations and think in the future to be able to help. At this point I would like to thank all people who have given us the trust and have opened her heart to support Nepal financially. Your help has come (all together: 14,500 euros up to now)!!!! Up to now we could buy with it food, tent tarpaulins, washing accessories and mattresses, as well as rebuild a school. THANKS FOR ALL YOUR SUPPORT AND DONATIONS! AND PLEASE KEEP ON GOING THE DONATIONS! Greetings and Love Carolin
